Playtripper Music Store
Hungry for new music? Playtripper has partnered with two excellent online music stores to make sure you can always find the hottest tunes.
Buy your music through 7digital or eMusic, and then just drag the files onto Sherpa to copy them onto your iPod.
7digital is a traditional online store - just load up your shopping cart and head for the checkout.
- Just 79 pence (GBP) for most tracks
- Huge choice of music - over 3.5 million tracks available including the latest releases.
- Great selection of audiobooks if you fancy something different.
- Simple interface, and no special software required to download tracks.
- Lots of free MP3 downloads available - no credit card required!
- Very cool "Locker" feature, an online backup of ALL your purchases.
- Choice of DRM-free formats (MP3/AAC) for many tracks and albums.
- Online preview - listen before you buy
- Your 7digital login also works with their sister site IndieStore
Are you a new music addict? Looking to keep the costs down? eMusic offer something different: a music subscription service.
Instead of paying per-track, you pay a low monthly fee (less than the price of one CD!), which entitles you to download a fixed number of tracks each month. That means you can buy music from as little as 20p (approx $0.40) per track!
- Low monthly fee means much lower cost per track
- Free bonus tracks just for taking a trial
- Risk-free trial - cancel within 14 days with no charge, AND you can keep the tracks!
- Professional editorial: online magazine and reviews help you find the coolest new music
- Huge selection - over 3.5 million tracks available including the latest releases.
- Special focus on indie music, get access to songs from over 27,000 independent labels!
- Online preview - listen before you buy
- Great selection of audiobooks
- Cancel your subscription at any time, no fixed term contract
- Three great low-cost plans to choose from
Both stores provide music in the universal (and DRM-free) MP3 file format, so they are compatible with all players from iPods to mobile phones; and you can also burn them to CDs for backups.
One note for all 7digital users regarding audio file formats. They sell tracks in a variety of formats, including MP3, AAC, and WMA. Most are available in DRM-free MP3 or AAC format, but some (particularly audiobooks) are only available in DRM-protected WMA.
The available formats are clearly marked on the site, but do check before you buy because Sherpa (and iPod) do not support WMA files. Look for the
logo next to tracks and albums that are available in MP3 format.
